PHILADELPHIA - Reid Brignac has a knack for getting big hits. Brignac hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. His second walk-off hit in two weeks gave the Phillies consecutive wins for the first time since a three-game streak May 17-20. "Its what you play the game for, its what you dream of as a kid," Brignac said. Brignac had a game-winning RBI single in the 14th inning of a 6-5 win over the New York Mets on May 30. His only other walk-off hit before this year was a solo homer for Tampa Bay off Yankees reliever Sergio Mitre in the 11th inning on Sept. 13, 2010. That gave the Rays a 1-0 win and put them a half-game ahead of New York in the AL East. "Different circumstances," Brignac said. "Both feel great." Starters Cole Hamels and Tyson Ross matched zeroes, but didnt get decisions. Hamels struck out a season-high 11 and allowed five hits in eight shutout innings for the Phillies. Ross struck out seven in seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits. Jonathan Papelbon (2-1) tossed a scoreless ninth for the win. "Cole was outstanding," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "Real sharp with his command, his fastballs and change-ups. Hes looking real good." Nick Vincent (0-2) walked Domonic Brown with one out and hit Carlos Ruiz on 1-2 pitch. Brignac then sent a 2-0 pitch into the right-field seats for his first homer with the Phillies. Brignac was just 8 for 40 with 19 strikeouts before going deep. Brignac pointed into the dugout as he jogged to first, slapped his hands together after rounding the bag and was mobbed at the plate by jubilant teammates. He got doused with shaving cream afterward by A.J. Burnett. "It feels great to come through for my teammates," Brignac said. "Cole pitched great." Jimmy Rollins stole two bases on the same pitch in the Phillies first after moving within three hits of breaking Mike Schmidts franchise record of 2,234. Rollins lined a one-out single to right, but jogged slowly to first and was grimacing in pain. He appeared hobbled perhaps because he hit a foul off his leg. But Rollins then stole second base, diving headfirst ahead of the throw. He got up, saw no one covering third base because of an overshift on Ryan Howard and swiped that bag. Howard walked, but Marlon Byrd struck out to end the inning. Johnny Damon once did the same thing against the Phillies, stealing second and third in the ninth inning in Game 4 of the 2009 World Series, a 7-4 win for the Yankees. Hamels pitched out of a couple jams in the early innings. Cameron Maybin led off the third with a double and advanced on Jace Petersons sacrifice, a drag bunt attempt. But Hamels fanned Ross and retired Chris Denorfia on a grounder. San Diego loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Hamels struck out Maybin swinging to end the inning. "I feel like Ive really been able to execute start to finish," Hamels said. "Im not giving in when I get behind in counts, not overdoing it. Im able to make good pitches and getting good results." The Padres, who entered with the worst batting average in the majors at .217, had just five hits and none after the fourth inning. Carlos Quentin (1 for 29), Everth Cabrera (0 for 23) and Peterson (0 for 20) continued their slumps, going a combined 0 for 10 with six strikeouts. "That was a great pitchers duel," Padres manager Bud Black said. "Both guys were outstanding." NOTES: Phillies ace Cliff Lee has started throwing again, but its uncertain when hell return. Lee has missed four starts since landing on the disabled list with an elbow strain. ... Hamels had double-digit strikeouts for the 26th time, passing Jim Bunning for third place on the Phillies list. ... Byrd was 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. ... Ross lowered his ERA to 2.97. ... The Phillies are 22-13 vs. the Padres at Citizens Bank Park. ... LHP Eric Stults (2-7, 5.68) goes for the Padres against RHP Kyle Kendrick (1-6, 4.30) in the series finale Thursday afternoon. Christen Press Jersey . -- Canada played to expectation up until halftime. Alex Morgan USA Jersey . Durant had 33 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, hit the tying 3-pointer late in regulation and made the go-ahead foul shots in overtime to lift the Thunder past the Wizards 106-105. John Wall missed a driving layup attempt at the buzzer for Washington, which was seeking its third straight win. http://www.officialsocceruswntshop.com/emily-sonnett-usa-jersey/ . But sometimes the way you lose takes precedence over the final score. And how the Jets lost the 5-4 game to the New York Islanders on Thursday is what had Coach Claude Noel hot after the game. Amy Rodriguez USA Jersey . The 31-year-old, a two-time CFL lineman of the year, was among the most coveted free agents on the market. The Windsor, Ont., native will be especially important to a team that has lost veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo to retirement and is expected to go with the less experienced Troy Smith and Tanner Marsh this season. Lindsey Horan Jersey . -- Joe Thornton scored the tiebreaking goal with 5:39 left in regulation to help the San Jose Sharks overcome a two-goal deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-3 on Thursday night.BEREA, Ohio -- Johnny Manziel held up his new brown No. 2 jersey and flashed a smile that beamed to Texas. With whirring cameras providing the soundtrack, he was welcomed to his NFL home. Johnny Football arrived. Cleveland may never be the same. Humble, confident and charmingly comfortable in handling any question, Manziel was introduced Friday by the Browns, who positioned themselves perfectly in the first round of the draft to select the polarizing Texas A&M quarterback with equal amounts of skill and swag. Sitting alongside fellow first-round pick Justin Gilbert, a cornerback from Oklahoma State taken 14 picks ahead of him, Manziel said hes stepping into a life he believes will be even crazier than his college days. "Im going into it expecting madness," he said. Manzielmania hit Cleveland like a spring thunderstorm Friday. As of 6 p.m., the Browns had sold 2,300 season tickets -- renewals and new purchases -- since the start of Thursdays first round. In the hours after Manziel was chosen with the No. 22 overall pick, the teams sales staff struggled to keep up with phones that barely stopped ringing. At the teams gift shot in FirstEnergy Stadium, fans waited in long lines to buy Manziel jerseys at $150 a pop. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner took all the attention in stride. Hes used to it, having had his every move on and off the field chronicled since the first time he scrambled out of the pocket and made a magical play for the Aggies. "It means a lot to me, obviously," Manziel said about Clevelands hyped reaction. "Ive gotten a lot of support already, but theres work that needs to be done." Manziel said he doesnt carry the burden of being Johnny Football, the kid who turns giant stadiums into his personal playground and the one who occasionally hangs out with rap stars and LeBron James. "Im Johnny Manziel," he said. "Johnny Football is what I am in the media and what is out there. I accept it and Im very accepting of it. At the same time, I know who I am. Im Johnny Manziel from Kerrville, Texas. I dont let that get to me too much or let all that weigh me down or ever make me lose sleep at night." As he spoke, Gilbert quietly took it all in as he sat next to his famous teammate. Gilbert confessed to getting caught up in Manziels selection while he was in New York. " I was on my way back to the hotel and I think my mom or somebody told me that we had Johnny Manziel so I let down the (car) window and started screaming, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Browns were here," he said. "Im excited hes here. I expect nothing but the best from him.&qquot; The Browns have been waiting for someone, anyone like Manziel for years.dddddddddddd The team has started 20 quarterbacks since 1999, a roll call that begins with Ty Detmer and includes first-round busts like Tim Couch, Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden. Manziels well aware of the Browns failings and hopes to be the one to solidify things. "I have goals for myself, expectations," he said. "But I feel like if I put in the time necessary and I do what Im supposed to do and really open myself up to these coaches and let them teach me and mould me into being a good football player and continue to build on what I did the past couple years as far as getting better year by year, piece by piece, then Ill have some success. Ill believe that." Manziel knows there are those who feel his size will limit his success. Hes the first QB under six feet to be taken in the first round since 1953. "You can measure height," he said. "You cant really measure heart." Manziel will compete with Brian Hoyer to open next season behind centre. Hoyer started two games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury in 2013, but is the incumbent. When he was told by general manager Ray Farmer that the team was drafting Manziel, Hoyer said, "bring it on." Manziel wasnt surprised by Hoyers reaction. "I wouldnt expect anything less," he said. "Hes a competitive guy. I feel like thats exactly what I want in a teammate." Manziel has spent most of the past two years in a fishbowl, so it was no surprise that photos of his post-draft celebration in New York with family and friends, including Drake and Cavaliers All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, quickly circulated through social media. One photo showed Manziel swigging from a magnum of champagne. Asked about his late-night actions, Manziel offered a quick defence. "Im 21 years old," he said. Manziel intends to shelve the party-boy antics as he strives to live up to his game-changing reputation and show the Browns they made the right move in drafting him. Hes not looking for any special treatment and intends to earn the trust and faith of teammates. "Im low guy on the totem pole," he said. "I know my place. More than anything I need to show these guys with actions, other than words or anything I can say, to earn their respect. It really is all about earning these guys respect. Im going to do all that I can to try and make these guys comfortable with me every day and know that I want whats best for this team. "Im going to come in and work extremely hard." Johnny Lunchbox.
