MILAN, Italy -- Roma maintained its perfect start to the season with a 5-0 win over Bologna to return to the top of Serie A on Sunday, while Juventus kept up the pressure on the capital side with a 1-0 victory in a heated derby at city rival Torino. Roma is two points clear of Juventus and Napoli, with Inter Milan a further two points behind after it was held to a 1-1 draw at Cagliari. Elsewhere, Sassuolo picked up a second point, coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 against high-flying Lazio, while striker German Denis tormented former club Udinese as his two goals gave Atalanta a controversial 2-0 win. Also, it was: Catania 2, Chievo Verona 0; and Hellas Verona 2, Livorno 1. "Our objective is still to get back into Europe and be up there with the other favourites like Napoli and Juventus in the final sprint," Roma coach Rudi Garcia said. "Well see when we play against them. They are only two points behind, which is nothing." Roma had won all five of its games this season -- for the first time in its history -- but was yet to score in the first half. It corrected that failing after eight minutes. Bologna goalkeeper Gianluca Curci parried Miralem Pjanics free kick but Alessandro Florenzi ran in to head into an empty goal. Gervinho doubled Romas advantage 10 minutes later, dribbling forward past Mikael Antonsson and driving low inside the near post. And Mehdi Benatia added a third in the 25th with a stunning volley following a corner. Gervinho, who had had a disappointing two seasons at Arsenal, fired in under the bar in the 62nd for his third goal in two games before substitute Adem Ljajic capped a fantastic night for Roma on his 22nd birthday. "He is a lad who needs confidence and goalscoring opportunities, which dont exist without him there," Garcia added. "Of course he makes some mistakes, but if he plays and has a lot of chances, he scores." In Turin, Paul Pogba scored a contentious 54th-minute winner for Juventus, nodding in the rebound after Carlos Tevezs header came off the crossbar. There were fierce protests from Torino, however, as Tevez appeared to be offside. Torino had gone close in a scrappy first half, but Juventus dominated after scoring and never looked like conceding. Torino has not won the Derby della Mole since 1995, and hasnt even scored in the past 15 editions. Tevez injured his ankle in a nasty tackle by former Juventus striker Ciro Immobile, and his club says he is an injury doubt for Wednesdays Champions League match against Galatasaray. "They told me Tevez was offside. But it also has to be said that earlier we were unlucky because Immobile should have been sent off for the foul on Tevez," Juventus coach Antonio Conte said. "Sometimes decisions are in your favour, sometimes not. "Today there was one team that looked for the victory and then there was Torino, which sat back and waited, even after going a goal down. Its a difficult league and our opponents change their whole approach to limit us rather than play their own football." Cagliari was still playing its home matches nearly 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) away in Trieste due to ongoing stadium troubles in Sardinia. Inter had several chances to take the lead but Cagliari was rescued by the heroics of goalkeeper Michael Agazzi, who pulled off impressive saves to deny Yuto Nagatomo, Fredy Guarin (twice) and Ishak Belfodil. Belfodil had the best of those chances but headed straight at the goalkeeper from very close range and Agazzi was able to stop it with the help of his left upright. Inter finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when Mauro Icardi headed in Nagatomos pass following a well-worked move. However, Cagliari levelled five minutes from full time as a deflection off Rolando took Radja Nainggolans shot past a hapless Samir Handanovic. Sassuolo had the worst attack and worst defence heading into the match against Lazio, with two goals scored and 16 conceded, but its first ever Serie A point -- in a 1-1 draw at Napoli midweek -- had given it confidence and the home side dominated the first half. Lazio took the lead against the run of play five minutes after the interval when Andre Dias headed Antonio Candrevas corner into the bottom left corner. The capital side doubled its advantage four minutes later with a low, 25-yard (meter) shot from Candreva, but Ezequiel Schelotto immediately pulled one back for Sassuolo when he headed in Jasmin Kurtics corner. Sassuolo levelled in the 76th when Antonio Floro Flores lifted a free kick over the wall. Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti got his hands to the ball but couldnt prevent it from going in. In Bergamo, Atalanta took the lead moments from halftime when a corner was nodded on for Denis to head in from close range. Udinese thought it had been given the chance to level less than a minute into the second half when the referee signalled for a penalty after Guglielmo Stendardo pulled down Danilo. Antonio Di Natale stepped up to the spot before the referee consulted with his assistant and cancelled the penalty, because of an offside just before the foul. Denis doubled Atalantas advantage in the 63rd, running onto a chipped ball over the defence from Luca Cigarini and slotting into the bottom right corner. It was about the only time he wasnt giving Pittsburgh huge problems on both ends of the court. Wilbekin scored 21 points, including 11 of the teams 13 during a 7-minute stretch in the second half, and top-seeded Florida handled the Panthers 61-45 in the NCAA tournament Saturday. The Gators 28th consecutive win put them in the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive year. The latest victory followed a lacklustre and head-scratching performance in the teams NCAA opener against Albany two days earlier. The Gators vowed to play with more energy and intensity, and Wilbekin spearheaded the effort. "We just wanted to come out and not let them play harder than us or not play as hard as we can," Wilbekin said. "I think we did a good job of having our energy up at the start of the game, and we played together on offence and played together on defence." Wilbekin took over in the second half, scoring eight consecutive points at one point. Patric Young wasnt too shabby, either, finishing with seven points and eight rebounds. Will Yeguete added eight points -- all in the paint. Michael Frazier II chipped in 10 points for the Gators. Frazier was just 2-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Had Florida not been cold from behind the arc, the game would have been essentially over much sooner than it was. The Gators finished 5 of 20 from 3-point range, with at least five of those rimming in and out. Florida will face either fourth-seeded UCLA or 12th-seeded Stephen F. Austin on Thursday in the South Regional in Memphis, Tenn. The Bruins and Lumberjacks play Sunday in San Diego. The Gators have the longest current streak of Sweet 16 appearances -- and expect to go further. If Wilbekin continues to play like he did against the Panthers, Florida surely improves its chances of making another deep run in the tournament. "It was good to see him come back and respond the way he did today," coach Billy Donovan said. "I thought all the way around he played very well. ... He was great on both ends of the floor because he really gives it up on the defensive end, and when you give it up like that and youre the point guard, theres a physical toll that your body takes over a period of time." Wilbbekin ended up getting iced down after banging knees with a defender.dddddddddddd He got a well-deserved standing ovation as he limped off the court. "Hes a great point guard," Panthers forward Lamar Patterson said. "He took care of business." Wilbekin hit a running 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer and drained a back-breaking 3 with 8:24 remaining that gave Florida its largest lead at that point, 45-31. His consecutive floaters inside 5 minutes to play were equally troublesome for Pitt. The Panthers, who seemed focused on Young inside and Frazier out, had no answer for Wilbekins dribble penetration. Wilbekin also was a force on the press, which helped force 11 turnovers and got the Panthers out of rhythm. Florida played the kind of defence that had to impress NFL coaches Bill Belichick and Mike Tomlin. The Patriots and Steelers head men were on hand, with Belichick sitting behind Floridas bench in a white Gators visor and Tomlin sitting opposite Pitts bench in Panthers colours. Wilbekin really started to dominate as Pitt steadily wore down in the second half. "Got in the lane -- constantly," Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said. "Hes a senior, hes a really good player, hes been through some ups and downs, obviously, and hes had a great finish to his career, and thats what you hope happens to a kid that learns and gets better. They played well. Im sure theyre proud of him and what hes become, a local guy thats done well." Talib Zanna led the Panthers with 10 points, their only player in double figures. A lot was made of the inside matchup between Young and Zanna, two ripped centres who played well Thursday. But Wilbekin was the story in this one. His best play didnt even show up in the box score. Wilbekin saved one of the many loose balls Florida got to first, turned around and threw a strike to Casey Prather. Prather drove the lane and dropped the ball to Young for a dunk that energized the pro-Florida crowd. "I think just trying to get better in little areas, the small stuff, trying to be a better leader," said Wilbekin, who was suspended five games to start the season. "As far as how it translates on the court, I think its helped me become a better leader, be more connected with my teammates and coach. Its helped me play with a freer mind." ' ' '
