MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Cam Newton angrily slapped his hands together and stared into the end-zone stands, watching Miami Dolphins fans celebrate the interception he had just thrown. His mistake helped put the Carolina Panthers in a deep hole Sunday, but Newton knew how to get out. He led a late comeback for the second time in a week, converting a fourth-and-10 situation at his 20 with a completion to keep alive the Panthers final possession, and their touchdown with 43 seconds left beat Miami 20-16. The Panthers (8-3) overcame a 16-3 first-half deficit for their seventh win in a row, their longest streak since 2003. "It may not be pretty," Newton said, "but at the end of the game we get that three-letter word, and thats gorgeous." Newton hit Greg Olsen with a 1-yard pass for the winning score to cap a 12-play drive. Carolina also rallied past the New England Patriots with a late drive last Monday. The Dolphins (5-6) fell to 2-2 since tackle Jonathan Martin left the team and the teams bullying scandal began to mushroom. "Weve got to make plays at the end when it counts," receiver Mike Wallace said. "Weve got to have a killer instinct. I dont think we have it that well right now. Weve got to do a better job of putting teams away." The Panthers trailed 16-13 when their winning drive began at their own 20 with 4:13 left. With only one timeout remaining, they went for it on fourth down, and Newton threaded a pass between two defenders to Steve Smith for a 19-yard gain. A backbreaker for Miami? "Im not sure theres any other word to describe that," defensive lineman Jared Odrick said. "Thats when the tide shifted in our favour," Newton said. Carolina then converted two third downs before Newton hit Olsen for the winning score. Ryan Tannehill nearly connected with Wallace for a 60-yard score in the final seconds, but the pass fell incomplete at the goal line. "Thats a tough play," Tannehill said. "Youre basically a hope and a prayer and get it out there." "A little scary," Carolina coach Ron Rivera said. Tannehill and Wallace earlier teamed up for a 53-yard touchdown and a 57-yard completion to set up a field goal. Newtons interception led to another field goal by Miami. He was erratic at the outset, perhaps partly because he bit his tongue when hit on the first series, and he finished with a quarterback rating of only 60.6. But Newton was at his best with time running out. Following the Panthers uncharacteristically slow start, he led them 52 yards for a field goal in the final 61 seconds of the first half with no timeouts left, taking advantage of Miamis soft coverage to cut the deficit to 16-6. Riveras willingness to take chances paid off in the third quarter. From the Panthers 41, Newton ran for 8 yards to convert a fourth-and-1, and they went on to complete an 83-yard touchdown drive to make the score 16-13. "They have been calling our coach Riverboat Ron because he likes to gamble," Newton said. Newton scored on a 5-yard keeper in the third quarter and celebrated with a dance tribute to LeBron James, mindful he was in the Miami Heat stars area code. "Three-oh-five is where he reigns supreme with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh," Newton said. "Im big fans of those guys." For the second game in a row, the Panthers Luke Kuechly made a big play in the end zone that was disputed. He appeared to make helmet-to-helmet contact when he broke up a potential touchdown catch by Rishard Matthews, and an official threw a flag, but the referee determined there was no penalty and Miami settled for a field goal and a 16-3 lead. Kuechly bear-hugged the Patriots Rob Gronkowski on the final play of the Panthers victory at New England last Monday. While Tannehill threw for 280 yards, he was also sacked three times to increase his season total to 44, a franchise record. Carolina held Miamis running backs to 16 yards in 13 carries and shut out the Dolphins over the final 31 minutes. "We were lazy in the first half," Carolinas Smith said. "We underestimated that team." The Dolphins fell to 4-4 in games decided by four points or less. "We were a couple of plays away from winning," Tannehill said. "Weve got to be able to make those plays. Its tough to win three-point games every week. When the defence is playing well like that, weve got to be able to score more points." LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is being sued by a woman who alleges that while she was employed by him, they had a romantic relationship and that he subjected her to racially and sexually offensive comments. The complaint filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges that Maiko Maya Kings resistance to Sterlings "stream of racist and sexist taunts" caused him to retaliate against her and terminate her employment as his personal assistant and caretaker in May. King, who is represented by high-profile attorney Gloria Allred, alleges discrimination, retaliation and "intentional infliction of emotional distress" and demands a jury trial. Sterlings lawyer, Bobby Samini, said the suit was "baseless and ridiculous." He added: "She was never employed by Donald Sterling. Her claim was obviously prompted by opportunistic motives." The lawsuit comes after Sterling was banned for life and fined US$2.5 million by the NBA for publicized racist remarks. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver worked to oust him as owner of the team until his wife, Shelly Sterling, concluded a deal last week to sell it to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The $2 billion deal still needs to be approved by NBA owners. King was romantically involved with Donald Sterling from 2005 thhrough 2011 while she worked for him and his foundation, but they often "argued about his racist views," the suit states.dddddddddddd. King was previously married to a black man and had two children. According to the lawsuit, Sterling allegedly asked her: "How could you be married to a black man?" and "Why would you bring black people into the world?" He allegedly also told her "I want to take you out of the black world and put you into the white world." Because of the racist comments, Sterling and King broke up in 2011, the suit states. But when Kings father died in 2013 she returned to work for Sterling knowing V. Stiviano was his girlfriend now. King said she accompanied him to doctor appointments, made sure he took his medications on time, took walks with him and accompanied him to business meetings. The suit states that contrary to his agreement to pay her $10,000 a month, "Sterling dangled money only if she would have sex with him" and told her he was "bored with V." She also alleges that he would humiliate her in public by groping her, and relates multiple other incidents of alleged sexual harassment.
