(SportsNetwork.com) - The start of a quick Florida tour for the Washington Wizards didnt go as planned and theyll try again for their first win of the season Thursday against the Orlando Magic at Amway Center. The Wizards opened the season with Wednesdays 107-95 loss to the Miami Heat in their first game without superstar LeBron James. The Heat didnt miss a beat, at least for one night, and were led by Chris Boshs 26 points and 15 rebounds. Norris Cole and Dwyane Wade scored 23 and 21 points, respectively. Drew Gooden and Marcin Gortat scored 18 points apiece, while Paul Pierce added 17 points in his Washington debut. The Wizards struggled on the boards (44-36) and havent won a season opener since Oct. 27, 2009 against Dallas. I think we lost that game on rebounds, on the boards, Gortat said. We should fight a bit harder and stay a bit more focused on everything we do. ... Weve just got to regroup and get the game tomorrow. John Wall ended with 16 points and 11 assists for the Wizards, who were outscored by a 35-25 measure in the fourth quarter and were without guard Bradley Beal (wrist) and forwards Nene and DeJuan Blair. Both big men were serving a one-game suspension for a preseason incident and should be back Thursday. Kris Humphries is a new face in DC and shook off a balky hand to post four points in just over 13 minutes. Otto Porter led the team in scoring during the preseason with 13.0 points per game, his exact point total against Miami. Wall averaged career-highs in points (19.4 ppg), assists (8.8 apg), field goal percentage (.433) and 3-point percentage (.351) last season. He led the NBA in total assists with 721. Washington was a playoff team last season and is a favorite to win the Southeast Division now that James is in Cleveland. The Wizards could be down 0-2 on the season and in division play after Thursdays game in Orlando. The Wizards will open their home schedule Saturday versus Milwaukee. Orlando lost its season opener Tuesday, 101-84, to Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans. Davis was outstanding and finished with 26 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks. The Magic were led by Tobias Harris, who scored 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Nikola Vucevic was a beast on the boards with 23 to go along with 15 points for Orlando, which shot 38.1 percent and committed 18 turnovers for 27 New Orleans points. The toughest part for Orlando was allowing 26 offensive boards. Magic rookie guard Elfrid Payton started the game at the point with second- year PG Victor Oladipo nursing a facial fracture. Payton had four points and seven assists. It was great to get out there and play in front of family and friends, said Payton, a Louisiana native. It gives you a lot of confidence. Aaron Gordon, Orlandos other first-round draft pick, had 11 points off the bench Not much is expected from the Magic this season and theyre aiming for a sixth straight win in their home opener. Orlando will host Toronto Saturday. The Magic lost all four meetings with Washington last season, but are 10-3 in the previous 13 encounters in central Florida. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Jose Reyes was put on the disabled list after aggravating a hamstring injury, R.A. Dickey struggled and the Toronto Blue Jays ended up with a one-sided loss to Tampa Bay. David Price took a shutout into the eighth inning and Matt Joyce drove in three runs Monday to help the Rays begin the season with a 9-2 victory over Blue Jays. Reyes was lifted after his first at-bat because of a tight left hamstring, an injury that first bothered him late in spring training. The star shortstop led off the game and was robbed of a hit on a diving catch by Rays centre fielder Desmond Jennings. "I tried to run a little bit faster between home plate and first base, and I kind of feel my hammy there," Reyes said. "So I have to slowdown and get out of the game because I dont want to get any worse." Reyes missed several games during the final week of spring training and wasnt at 100 per cent for exhibition games Friday and Saturday in Montreal. "Irritated the same spot, so thats a concern," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. Several hours later the Blue Jays put him on the DL. Reyes said the hamstring was "good enough" to play in Montreal and felt better Monday. "When I tried for a little speed, something not right," Reyes said. Reyes missed 66 games last season after going on the DL April 13 with a sprained left ankle -- after just 10 into his first season with the Blue Jays. He was replaced in the field by Ryan Goins. The Blue Jays purchased the contract of infielder Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Buffalo to take Reyes roster spot. Price (1-0) allowed two runs and six hits over 7 1-3 innings to beat R.A. Dickey in a matchup of 2012 Cy Young Award winners. The hard-throwing lefty walked one and struck out six before a crowd of 31,042 at Tropicana Field -- the Rays ninth consecutive sellout for a home opener. "Its really disappointing and frustrating," Dickeyy said.dddddddddddd "You feel like you let a lot of people down. Against David Price, one of the best pitchers in baseball, if you dont match him inning per inning, its going to be tough to win the game. I put us in a hole early. Walked some guys early, gave up some 0-2 hits with runners in scoring position, and that was the game." Dickey dropped to 14-13 with a 4.21 ERA last season after winning 20 games and NL Cy Young honours with the Mets two years ago. The 39-year-old knuckleballer is off to another shaky start after allowing six runs, five hits and walking six over five innings against essentially the same Tampa Bay lineup he went 3-1 against in 2013. Joyce had a sacrifice fly and two-run double off Dickey (0-1), who yielded six two-out runs in five innings. Evan Longoria got the Rays going with a first-inning RBI single and Wil Myers drove in two more when he singled with the bases loaded in the second. Price limited the Blue Jays to four singles and had only allowed two runners past second base before Maicer Izturis opened the eighth with his second hit of the day. Pinch-hitter Erik Kratz followed with a first-pitch, two-run homer over the centre field wall. The 28-year-old lefty became the Rays first 20-game winner and edged Justin Verlander in AL Cy Young balloting two years ago. He got off to a slow start in 2013, but finished strong after spending more than a month on the disabled list, leading the majors in innings, complete games and fewest walks per nine innings after July 2. NOTES: The Rays havent lost a home series to the Blue Jays since April 2007. ... Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen, whos on the 15-day disabled list due to a strain in his left abdominal area and lower back, doesnt feel the injury will be a long-term problem. ... The four-game series continues Tuesday night with RHP Alex Cobb getting the start for Tampa Bay and the Blue Jays countering with RHP Drew Hutchison. The 31-year-old dangerman set up two goals and scored two himself as Toronto FC rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the slumping Houston Dynamo 4-2 on Saturday night. With the Los Angeles Kings on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup with a 3-0 series lead over the New York Rangers, the debate has begun as to whom should win the Conn Smythe Trophy for this years playoffs. Unlike in 2012 when the Kings last won the Cup, there is no obvious choice for the most valuable player in the playoffs. That year, goaltender Jonathan Quick posted a 16-4 record with a .946 save percentage, 1.41 goals-against-average and three shutouts en route to winning the award. Quick is again a candidate to win this year, however he may not be the favourite. In 24 playoff games, Quick has a 15-9 record, a .910 save percentage and 2.69 goals against average. He also has two shutouts in the playoffs, including one against the Rangers in Game 3. The Kings have used a high-scoring offence to get within a game of winning the Stanley Cup this season. Their 84 goals in the playoffs are 24 more than the next-best Rangers. Leading the way on offence is Anze Kopitar, who leads in scoring with 26 points in 24 playoff games. Kopitars 21 assists in this years run sits second in Kings history, behind only Wayne Gretzkys 25 helpers in 1993. However, Kopitar has just five goals, while nine of his assists have come on Marion Gaborik goals. Gaborik, acquired by the Kings on trade deadline day from the Columbus Blue Jackets, leads the playoffs in goals with 13. His finest game of the playoffs ccame in the second round against the Anaheim Ducks, when he scored with seven seconds left in regulation to tie the game and scored again in overtime to take the series opener.dddddddddddd "Mr. Game 7," Justin Williams, also has an overtime winner on his playoff resume this year. Williams scored to lift the Kings over the Rangers in Game 1 -- one of eight goals hes scored in the playoffs. An emotional leader for the team, Williams is tied for second in playoff scoring with 24 points and leads the team with a plus-14 rating. He also has six points through three Stanley Cup Final games. Tied with Williams at 24 points is forward Jeff Carter, who played a similar role to Gaborik in 2012 after being acquired mid-season from the Blue Jackets. Carter has 10 goals in these playoffs, including a team-high four on the power play. However, hurting Carters campaign is his plus-five rating. If any defenceman is to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for the Kings, it would likely be Drew Doughty, who leads the Kings blue line with 17 points and has been their top defenceman throughout the playoffs, averaging over 28 minutes of ice-time per game. With multiple options available, the Conn Smythe Trophy debate may come down to the Kings final victory. Until then, who do you believe will be named the most valuable player should the Kings defeat the Rangers? As always, its Your! Call. ' ' 's own career in Philadelphia. ' ' '
